LA, San Fran go at it again by the Bay

Baseball Betting Lines

09/07/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Los Angeles Dodgers are sticking around in the playoff picture. The club will try to stay on the winning track and in the hunt tonight when they open a three-game set with the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park.

The Dodgers have won four of their last five games, including a dramatic 7-4 victory on Thursday over the Cubs. The Dodgers plated four runs in the top of the ninth inning with Andre Ethier smacking a three-run, pinch-hit homer. The club also plated a run on a wild pitch in the frame.

Takashi Saito retired the Cubs in order in the home half of the ninth for his 37th save of the year. Joe Beimel (4-1) earned the win, throwing 1 2/3 innings of shutout ball after starter Derek Lowe went six-plus innings. Lowe allowed three runs on five hits with five walks and five strikeouts.

James Loney and Matt Kemp also homered for the Dodgers, who are within 3 1/2 games of National League West-leading Arizona. LA is also 2 1/2 games back of San Diego in the wild card picture.

Chad Billingsley has won his last three starts and will toe the rubber for the Dodgers tonight. He bested the Padres on Sunday behind seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits with nine strikeouts to improve to 10-4 with a 3.30 earned run average this year.

Billingsley has two road wins during his streak and is 11-4 in his career away from Dodger Stadium.

The right-hander is 2-0 with a 4.40 ERA in four career games (two starts) against the Giants. He bested the club with six scoreless innings on July 13.

The Giants, meanwhile, halted a four-game losing streak on Wednesday, as Barry Bonds hit the 762nd home run of his career to lift his club over the Rockies, 5-3. Pedro Feliz had three hits -- including a home run and a triple -- and Bengie Molina also added a solo shot in the win.

Kevin Correia (4-6) allowed just one run and four hits, did not walk a batter and fanned four over six innings.

Jonathan Sanchez will make his second start of the season for the Giants. After 29 relief outings, Sanchez started on Saturday against Washington and allowed three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of a loss, falling to 1-3 with a 5.27 ERA this year.

The left-hander has faced the Dodgers three times out of the bullpen in his career and has allowed one run over 2 2/3 total innings.

Sanchez will also attempt to halt the Giants' 11-game home losing streak to the Dodgers. LA is 6-0 against San Francisco at AT&T Park this year and hasn't lost to the club on the road since August 18 of last season.

The Dodgers are 20-11 versus the Giants over the last two seasons.

The 2009 AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year odds have been released and Denver Broncos' running back Knowshon Moreno has been made the opening favorite.

Bet NFL Sports Lines

Moreno was selected in the first round of April's NFL draft and is expected to carry the rushing load for the Broncos this season. And with Jay Cutler now in Chicago, Moreno might be expected to be Denver's entire offense.

Betting Lines from sports betting lines have made Moreno a 5/2 favorite to win this year's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Fellow running back Chris “Beanie” Wells (Arizona Cardinals) is right behind Moreno at 7/2, while Donald Brown (Indianapolis Colts) and receiver Michael Crabtree (San Francisco 49ers) are 5/1 to win. Quarterbacks Mark Sanchez (New York Jets) and Matthew Stafford (Detroit Lions) are 7/1 and 8/1, respectively.

A couple of players who present some value are Josh Freeman, Shonn Green and Darrius Heyward-Bey.

Freeman needs to beat out Byron Leftwich to become the starting quarterback of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but if he does, he has a lot or raw talent and could use the weapons around him (i.e. Kellen Winslow Jr. and Antonio Bryant) to be very successful in his first season.

Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.

Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.

And if you're looking for a deep sleeper, check out Pat White at 30/1. He enters the Miami Dolphins vaunted “Wild Cat” offense and could be a big time playmaker.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
