Ribery set to miss final through suspension

Soccer Betting Lines

04/28/2010 - Munich, Germany (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Bayern Munich's call on UEFA to be lenient with Franck Ribery has fallen on deaf ears after the France star was handed a three-game ban which rules him out of the Champions League final.

The Bundesliga giants booked their place in next month's Madrid showpiece following a 4-0 aggregate semifinal victory over Lyon on Tuesday night.

Ribery missed the second leg, which Bayern won 3-0 at the Stade Gerland, after being sent off in the first match following a dangerous high tackle on Lisandro Lopez.

Bayern had urged UEFA to show lenience when assessing whether Ribery's automatic one-match ban should be increased.

However, the France winger has now seen his suspension increased to three games, which means he will miss out on the final on May 22 against either Barcelona or Inter Milan.

"Franck Ribery will miss the final after the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Body today decided to suspend the winger for three UEFA club competition matches for assault," read a statement.

"(He) was banned for last night's second leg in Lyon, which means that the suspension now remains in place for two further games - the UEFA Champions League final in Madrid on May 22 and the following match in any UEFA club competition for which he is eligible.

"Bayern may appeal within three days of communication of the decision."
